Proxim Wireless Corporation (OTC Markets: PRXM), a global leader in advanced Wi-Fi, point to point (PtP), and point to multi-point (PtMP) radio systems is announcing the release of the Tsunami 10250 BSX Base station with SmartConnect and Proxim SmartScan™ technologies. This revolutionary new product addresses three critical areas for Intelligent Transportation, Video Surveillance, Service Provider and other high bandwidth applications: Overcoming interference, increased megabits/second, and improved frequency availability at 5GHz.

The SmartConnect technology consists of an advanced, proprietary Beam Steering antenna (Beam X), as well as Proxim’s SmartScan. With these Proxim is able to offer:

Robust and Reliable Connections in the Face of Heavy InterferenceThe Beam X antenna uses advanced steering algorithms to minimize potential interference in the immediate environment by up to four times when compared to conventional antennas. This is especially beneficial in dense deployments.

More Megabits per Second: In addition, the Tsunami 10250 Base Station can deliver up to two and a half times (2.5X) more Mbps when compared to a traditional 60-degree sector BSUs. As an example, where a standard base station can only support 16 HD camera streams, with Beam X the 10250 BSX can support 40 HD camera streams.

More Spectrum: One of the biggest challenges for networks in the 5GHz band is the crowding in the band, leading to a higher noise floor and limited channel availability. With Proxim’s SmartScan implemented, the Tsunami 10250 BSX is able to be effectively deployed in the 5GHz DFS bands and avoid network disruption from weather radar detection events. The net effect is to enable effective use of up to 355 MHz of DFS spectrum covered by DFS rules. Today, in many cases these challenges leave these frequencies unavailable for use.

“We are excited about the potential impact that the Tsunami 10250 BSX with SmartConnect and SmartScan will bring to Municipalities, Service Providers and Enterprises, as it addresses 3 top concerns when deploying high-speed 5GHz networks,” said President and CEO Greg Marzullo. “Fighting interference, delivering more megabits and opening over 300MHz of the extra spectrum is exactly what our customers are telling us they need most.” “These new technologies will enable the effective deployment of high-reliability networks at 5 GHz in even the most frequency hostile environments.”
